Genuine black military issue hot weather (jungle) boots, with steel plate.
Great boot intended for hard, military use. Also good for law enforcement or EMS. Much less weight and far less bulk than most law enforcement boots, so they are easy to run, climb, and crawl in. These boots don't "lean forward" like many modern boots, so they won't cut into calf muscles or the Achilles tendon, or force them to stretch from an unnatural angle. Because the upper part of the upper is fabric, it is flexible and will eventually mold to the ankle and leg. There is a reinforcing nylon band across the ankle, but these boots do not have as much support as all-leather boots, so these would not be good for weak ankles. The part of the sole under the removable insoles and the foot box part of the uppers of these boots are leather with no plastic or other synthetic additives. These boots also have a real heel instead of a wedge shaped sole, so they are good for motorcycle, horse, etc. riding, where prevention of forward slip on a peg/stirrup is needed.
The leather can be polished to a spit shine, the vulcanized rubber Panama sole lasts a very long time, even on concrete and asphalt, the tread pattern makes it grip well and clean out easily with a stick or hose, and the steel plate can save feet from sharp sticks, metal, glass, etc. There isn't a ridiculous arch inside (they're almost flat), so even if the wearer's foot size and arch length size don't agree, if the boots are the correct length and width, they should probably fit. Note that these boots do not appear to have been made on a combination last, so a wide width front of the boot also means a wide width heel. Sizes of these boots are military, so the "usual" civilian men's and women's sizes won't necessarily be the correct size for these boots. The boots come XN to XW, in whole and half sizes 3 to 16, and the insoles can be removed for extra room, or a thicker insole can be put in to take up some extra room. Note that some widths are not made in the very small and very large sizes.
These quality, comfortable boots were MADE IN THE USA and do not have a chemical/plastic odor like some cheap imitation boots. The smell of the preservative is the same as it was when I was issued my first pair of these boots in the 1970s, is not objectionable, and goes away less than a day after taking the boots out of the box. These boots exhibit good workmanship (no missed or loose stitches, no obvious defects, well anchored eyelets, and solid construction) and hold up to very hard use.
These boots are different from the genuine tan military issue hot weather (desert) boots by color, having a steel plate, having a real heel, and having the smooth side of the leather out.
Awesome, well-made, and comfy.
